BAMAKO, Mali -- The Nigerian Women's National Team (8-0), which featured UCLA's Atonye Nyingifa, won the 2017 FIBA Women's AfroBasket for the third time, defeating Senegal 65-48 in Sunday's final.

Nigeria was led by Evelyn Akhator's 13 points and seven rebounds. Nyingifa added 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal in a starting role. 

For the tournament, Nyingifa averaged 9.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game. She scored in double figures in five of eight games, including a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Egypt in group play.

Senegal was led by Astou Traore, who scored a game-high 17 points. She was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Courtesy of qualifying for the AfroBasket final, both Nigeria and Senegal qualified for the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Earlier in the day, Mali claimed the last spot on the podium, after defeating Mozambique, 75-52, in the third-place game.

Traore was joined by Akhator (Nigeria), Italee Lucas (Angola), Leia Dongue (Mozambique) and Nagnouma Coulibaly (Mali) on the tournament's All-Star Five.
