In a preseason vote by the conference coaches, UCLA women's soccer was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 behind reigning champion Stanford. The Bruins are ranked ninth nationally in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.

UCLA was tied for fourth last year in the Pac-12 and finished the season with a 15-5-2 overall and 7-3-1 conference record and advanced to the Round of 16, falling in penalty kicks at West Virginia. The Bruins return nine starters from that squad, including Olympic bronze medalist Jessie Fleming, who was one of just two freshmen to earn NSCAA All-America honors last season; second-team All-Pac-12 honoree Anika Rodriguez; U.S. Under-23 National Team members Hailie Mace and Zoey Goralski; and goalkeeper Teagan Micah, who was called up to the full Australian National Team for last week's Tournament of Nations. Additionally, the Bruins bring in Top Drawer Soccer's No. 2-ranked freshman class, led by Ashley Sanchez, who played at both the FIFA U-20 and U-17 Women's World Cup in 2016.

The Bruins begin the season on Friday, Aug. 11 with an exhibition contest against Canada FISU at Drake Stadium at 5pm. Admission is free.
