LOS ANGELES โFormer UCLA outfielder and Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts has been selected the 2016 Coach of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council, announced the organization on Thursday. Roberts will be honored at the 12th Annual LA Sports Awards, to be held on Monday, Feb. 27 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
In his first year as manager of a pro team at any level, Roberts was named National League Manager of the Year, the first Dodger manager honored since Tommy Lasorda in 1988. He led the Dodgers to their fourth-straight division title and made it to the National League Championship Series.
The LA Sports Awards are presented annually by the Sports Council to celebrate the greatest moments of the year in sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
The ceremony also will feature the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Peter Ueberroth, plus presentations to the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, and a countdown of 2016's Top Ten moments. The awards banquet will be televised on Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket (air dates TBA).
UCLA head coach John Savage earned the distinction in 2013 after leading the Bruins to their first College World Series title.
