Jenkins, Kaskie Selected in NWSL Draft

LOS ANGELES - Darian Jenkins and Lauren Kaskie will join 1 other Bruin players in the NWSL after being selected in the 2017 College Draft on Thursday. Jenkins was the No. 7 pick overall by the North Carolina Courage and became UCLA's fifth first-round pick since the league was established in 2013. Kaskie was the ninth pick in the fourth round and was selected by the Chicago Red Stars.
Jenkins will join a slew of Bruins in North Carolina. The Courage, which won the NWSL Championship last season as the Western New York Flash, already has five other Bruins on its roster – Abby Dahlkemper, Sam Mewis, Katelyn Rowland, Taylor Smith and McCall Zerboni. All but Zerboni were part of UCLA's NCAA Championship team in 2013. In four years at UCLA, Jenkins earned NSCAA All-America honors in 2013, NSCAA All-Region honors twice and All-Pac-12 honors all four years. In 2016, she scored seven goals and 17 points in just 11 games and finished her career with 29 goals, 12 assists and 70 points.
Kaskie, who was a key player during the Bruins' 2013 NCAA Championship run, completed her UCLA career with three goals and two assists in 91 games played. The left-footed midfielder scored some significant goals in her career, including the game-winning goal in double overtime to win at Stanford in 2013. Kaskie earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors in 2013 and was a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection.
