Ball Named UCLA's Student-Athlete of the Week

LOS ANGELES – Freshman guard Lonzo Ball of the men's basketball team has been voted the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.
Ball, a 6-foot-6 guard from Chino Hills, Calif., also was voted the student-athlete of the week on Nov. 14 and Nov. 29. In UCLA's two Pac-12 road games last week, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists.
Ball scored a season-high 23 points, while adding seven assists and six rebounds, in UCLA's 76-63 win at Oregon State last Friday night. He totaled 14 points, six assists and three rebounds in the team's 89-87 loss at No. 21 Oregon on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Ball helped fuel UCLA's 17-0 scoring run in the second half when he nailed three consecutive three-point shots.
The weekly award is chosen by fans on Twitter via @UCLAAthletics. The other nominee for this week's award was Monique Billings (women's basketball).
Ranked No. 4 in the AP poll and No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches poll, UCLA (14-1) returns to action against California (10-4) in Pauley Pavilion on Thursday, Jan. 5. Game time is 6 p.m. UCLA's game will be nationally televised on ESPN, while the Bruins' radio broadcast will be available on AM 570 (KLAC).
