SEATTLE -- After a one-hour delay due to a power outage in Seattle, the seventh-ranked UCLA Bruins battled but at No. 11 Washington, but lost its 15th-consecutive game on the road to a ranked team, 82-70, in Alaska Airlines Arena on Sunday afternoon.
UCLA (11-4, 2-2) had no answer for Washington's Kelsey Plum, who burned the Bruins for 39 points on 13-for-26 shooting. Chantel Osahor had a double-double for Washington (16-2, 4-1) with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Katie Collier chipped in eight points and 15 rebounds to help UW win the battle of the boards, 45-42.
Washington got off to a strong start and led 16-11 at the first media timeout (4:01) of the first quarter. All five UW starters had scored in the first five minutes of the game. Monique Billings had a strong start for UCLA with six points in the early going. Washington stretched the lead to seven at the end of the first period, 22-15.
The Huskies engineered an 8-0 run to push the lead to 30-17 on a jumper by Hannah Johnson (6:11) early in the second quarter. Washington still led by 13 (35-22) after a pair of free throws by Plum (3:53). But UCLA closed the half on a 9-4 run to cut the deficit to 39-31 at the break. Plum and Osahor each had 13 points by halftime for UW. Billings led the Bruins with 12.
UCLA cut into the lead and made it single-digits five times in the third quarter, but continually made turnovers or couldn't get stops and Plum routinely pushed the lead back to double-digits. Her three-pointer with 1:43 left in the third pushed the lead to a game-high 15 points (60-45). Kennedy Burke drained a three at the buzzer to end the period with UCLA trailing 61-51.
Kelli Hayes cut into the Huskies' lead with a pair of free throws (7:34) to make it 61-55 in the fourth quarter. But Washington went on a 7-0 run to push the lead to 71-57 (4:54) and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
Billings finished just one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds. Jordin Canada, who was under the weather and fouled out of the game late in the fourth, had 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Kari Korver ended with 13 points while Burke chipped in 14 for the Bruins.
