
Cross Country Splits Squad for Big Weekend

The UCLA cross country team heads to Madison, Wisc. for the ninth annual Nuttycombe Invitational Presented by Under Armour. The meet will be held on Friday, Oct. 13 and is hosted by the University of Wisconsin.
The UCLA women will kick off the action for the Bruins with their 6k competition at 12:20pm CT/10:20am PT. The Bruin men will follow with the 8k race at 1:00pm CT/ 11:00am PT. All races will be run on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Ranked as the top regular season meet by FloTrack for 2017, the Nuttycombe Invite is stacked with elite schools in both the men's and women's fields. The UCLA men enter the weekend ranked 20th in the USTFCCCA poll, and they will face off against 18 other nationally-ranked squads, a field headlined by top-ranked Northern Arizona.
The Bruin women will also face stiff competition in Madison, as 16 nationally-ranked teams will toe the line. UCLA enters as the 11th-ranked team in the West Region.
UCLA posted impressive performances at the 2016 Nuttycombe Invite, as the Bruin men finished sixth and the women took 13th overall. Ferdinand Edman paced the men's squad with a 10th-place finish and a time of 24:02.9 while Claire Markey led the way for the Bruin women with a 25th-place finish, clocking a time of 20:41.3.

A separate group of Bruins will be heading to the Bronco Invite on Saturday, Oct. 14. The meet, which is hosted by Santa Clara, will take place at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The men's 8k will get the competition started at 8:00am, and the women's 6k will follow at 8:45am.
The Bruins are coming off a pair of victories in the Master's University Invite in Santa Clarita. Redshirt sophomore Millen Trujillo won the men's 8k competition, and the rest of the Bruins' Top 7 placed in the Top 10 of the Division I field. Freshman Kira Loren paced the UCLA women with a third-place DI finish and a time of 18:18.0 on the 5k course to lead the Bruins to a DI meet victory.
