Cross Country Tackles Second Meet in as Many Days

Sunnyvale โ The UCLA cross country team competed in the Santa Clara Bronco Invite in Sunnyvale, Calif. Saturday, with the Bruin men taking home a second-place Division I 8k team finish and the UCLA women finishing 13th in the DI 6k competition.
The UCLA men got the morning started with the 8k Invitational. Redshirt freshman Carter Blunt paced the Bruins with a third-place finish, clocking in at 23:44.5. Redshirt sophomore George Gleason also took home a top-10 finish, taking sixth in Division I (seventh overall) and a time of 23:49.3. Fellow redshirt sophomore Millen Trujillo finished in 12th place in DI, crossing the line at 24:02.3. Redshirt freshman Andy Ehrenberg and redshirt sophomore Scott Snow rounded out the Bruin men's scoring five, going 22-26 with times of 24:27.0 and 24:31.9, respectively, to secure the second-place Division I team finish.
The Bruins' Top 7 was completed by redshirt freshmen Tyler Janes (24:45.1) and Riley Kelly (24:50.2), who finished 42nd and 47th, respectively, on the 8k course. Junior Cole Smith was the eighth runner for the Bruins, finishing with a time of 25:13.3. Senior Max Davis rounded out the Bruins' squad, clocking a 25:30.8.
The UCLA women toed a squad of underclassmen for their 6k competition, and took 13th place in Division I. True freshman Kira Loren led the way for the Bruins with a 56th-place place DI finish and a time of 21:47.6. Redshirt freshman Lucie Semone was close behind in 58th, clocking a 21:50.2. Fellow redshirt freshman Alyson Jimenez finished 63rd overall with a time of 21:56.3. True freshman Jacquelyn Hill finished at 22:29.6, good for 87th in Division I. Redshirt freshman Lilly Schmidt finished off the UCLA's top 5, finishing in 107th place with a time of 22:50.0. Freshman Paige Carter rounded out the Bruins' squad, taking 111th place with a time of 23:09.2.
Up next for the UCLA cross country squad will be the start of the postseason with the 2017 Pac-12 Cross Country Championships in Springfield, Ore. The conference meet will be held Friday, Oct. 27 at 11:00am.
