UCLA Shuts Out Washington, 3-0

Seattle, Wash. - No. 2 UCLA rebounded from its first loss of the season on Thursday, taking a 3-0 victory over Washington on Sunday afternoon. Jessie Fleming and Hailie Mace scored first-half goals, and Ashley Sanchez added a third in the 87th minute.
Fleming's gave UCLA the early lead at 6:23 on a world-class goal, looping a shot over the goalkeeper's head from about 25 yards out. The goal was Fleming's fourth of the season and second in three games.
Mace put in her league-leading 13th goal of the season at 22:16 after being set up perfectly by a Sanchez through ball. Mace shot past on-rushing Husky goalkeeper Sarah Shimer to make it 2-0 Bruins.
Sanchez put the game away at 86:29, turning and blowing past a defender to take a pass from Sunny Dunphy. With a Husky defender and Shimer closing in, Sanchez fired far post for her fourth goal of the year.
The Bruins (13-1-2, 6-1-1 in the Pac-12) had more scoring opportunities in the first half but were stopped by Shimer. In the 11th minute, Shimer made a great save on a Mace shot in the box, and in the 26th minute, Shimer stopped a close-range Zoey Goralski header in the box.
UCLA's defense was sound, holding the Huskies (9-6-2, 2-4-2) to just one shot late in the first half and to five shots overall in the game, none on goal. Bruin goalkeeper Teagan Micah recorded the shutout, her sixth of the season. Shimer finished with eight saves on 14 UCLA shots.
The Bruins will return home to close out the regular season against No. 1 Stanford (Oct. 26), No. 16 California (Oct. 29) and No. 6 USC (Nov. 3). All games will take place at Drake Stadium. Tickets can be purchased in advance at uclabruins.com/tickets.
