LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA women's tennis team will conclude its fall schedule close to home this week, with trips to Palm Desert, Calif. and Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. on tap. The team boasts nine players across the fields of the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, beginning Wednesday, and the Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invitational, starting Thursday.
In its inaugural year, the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features a singles draw of 64 players, as well as a 32-team doubles fieldโboth made up of the nation's top players. Oracle/ITA Preseason Singles No. 1 player Ena Shibahara will participate in the former, alongside No. 52 Ayan Broomfield. Both players, currently 5-2 on the fall campaign, earned at-large selections into the field, which consists of some of the tournament-season's top performers.
The doubles tournament also includes Bruin representation, in the form of the Gabby Andrews-Jada Hart duo. On Oct. 22, the team claimed the doubles title at the 2017 ITA Southwest Regional Championships with three wins at the Barnes Tennis Center on the campus of the University of San Diego. Andrews-Hart defeated a pair of USC teams before knocking off Natalie Da Silveira and Palina Dubavets of UC Santa Barbara, 6-4, 6-2, in the final.
From Nov. 2-Nov. 5, five more Bruins will wrap up their fall schedules at the Kramer Club Invitational. Leading the way for UCLA will be No. 82 Terri Fleming, who is off to a 9-1 start on her senior campaign. She previously won the Cal Fall Invitational Blue flight, defeating teammate Abi Altick, who will also be at the Kramer Invite. Altick is sporting a 7-2 singles mark to begin her collegiate career. Those two will also team up in the doubles competition, as will Sophie Bendetti and Alaina Miller. Kristin Wiley will only play singles, while Bendetti will only play doubles.
