Redlicki to Play for ITA All-American Title
October 08, 2017 | Men's Tennis
LOS ANGELES -- Senior Martin Redlicki defeated Thomas Laurent of Oregon in straight sets Sunday, 6-4, 6-3, to become the first Bruin since 1997 (Vince Allegre) to reach the ITA All-American Championships final round. Next up for Redlicki is a Monday date with North Carolina's William Blumberg for the championship. A win would put the Boca Raton, Fla. native in even rarer company, as Robbie Venter (1981) is the lone UCLA player to garner a singles championship in the annual tournament.
Monday's final will begin at 8:00 a.m., PT. Live streaming and scoring is available HERE. Updates will also be available on the @uclatennis Twitter account.
Closer to home, the team of sophomore Ben Goldberg and senior Austin Rapp claimed the Flight-1 doubles title at the 2017 Aztec Fall Invitational Sunday. The pair was pitted against the hometown team of Sander Goels-Andersen and Nicholas Mitchell, which put up a fight in the UCLA team's 7-5 championship-deciding victory. It marked the fourth win in three days for the Bruin entrant, which won two matches Saturday to qualify for Sunday's final.

Austin Rapp was still not done in San Diego, as the Rancho Mirage, Calif. native had an opportunity to add a Flight-1 singles championship to an already successful weekend. With a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2 victory over San Diego's August Holmgren, he did just that. The win was the second of the day for the Bruin senior, who held off the Toreros' Alex Araouzos in the semifinal round, 6-2, 7-6.

It was a successful Sunday for Rapp brother Connor, too, as the redshirt freshman wrapped up play with a seventh-place finish at the UCSB Classic in his first collegiate action. He completed his time in the B-Flight singles bracket with a straight-set win over Nash Vollenweider of Saint Mary's, 6-2, 6-3.
The UCSB Classic also represented a successful start to freshman Keegan Smith's career. The San Diego, Calif. native defeated Bjorn Hoffmann of California in the A-Flight singles third-place match, 6-2, 6-2. Smith also joined fellow freshman Bryce Pereira in earning a fourth-place finish in the A-Flight doubles competition.
