Fleming, Mace Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalists

UCLA sophomore midfielder Jessie Fleming (London, Ontario, Canada) and junior forward Hailie Mace (Ventura, Calif.) have been selected as semifinalists for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I soccer coaches, announced the United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year and has been awarded annually since 1967.
Fleming, a member of the full Canadian National Team since 2013, is a co-captain and was named first-team All-Pac-12 for the second-straight year. She is also ranked as the No. 1 player in the nation in Top Drawer Soccer's midseason rankings. Fleming recorded five goals, including three game-winning goals, with eight assists in 2017. Last season, she was one of just two freshmen to receive NSCAA All-America honors and just the fourth UCLA freshman ever to receive the award after leading the team in goals (11) and points (27). In her first game as a Bruin, less than 10 days after winning a bronze medal at the Olympic Games with Team Canada, she scored two goals, and she went on to score a goal in each of her first four games. Fleming was selected the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman of the Year in 2016.
Mace earned Pac-12 honorable mention acclaim as a center back in 2016 and was moved to forward in 2017, where she has become UCLA's leading scorer this season with a career-high 15 goals and 33 points. She ranks second in the Pac-12 in goals and points and ranks ninth in the NCAA in goals scored. Mace earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2017 and was a three-time Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week and is ranked No. 8 player in the nation in Top Drawer Soccer's midseason rankings. She recorded a first-half hat trick on Aug. 24, 2017 vs. Santa Clara and also registered multi-goal games against Oregon State and Princeton in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Mace has started in 60 consecutive games and has played in every game of her career so far.
Fleming and Mace are two of 15 semifinalists with the three finalists being named on Dec. 8. The 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 5, 2018 to formally announce this year's winners.
