The Bruins conclude the 2017 non-conference portion of the schedule with a road win.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Third-ranked UCLA (17-3, 0-2) concluded its non-conference slate of the 2017 season with a 14-6 win over No. 11 San Jose State (13-11) at West Valley College in San Jose, Calif., on Sunday afternoon. UCLA improved to 11-1 all-time against San Jose State.

Senior Matt Farmer led the Bruins with three goals while freshman Luke Henriksson and senior Alex Roelse each scored twice. Redshirt sophomore Alex Wolf played the first half in goal for the Bruins and made three stops while giving up three goals. Senior Aleksandar Ruzic played the second half in the cage for UCLA, also registering three saves while surrendering three scores.

The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a penalty score from Roelse (5:45) and a goal at set from Farmer (5:00). Finn Pardon cut the lead to 2-1 with a power play goal (2:37) for San Jose State. But senior Max Irving converted another penalty shot for a 3-1 lead with 43 seconds remaining in the first period. Luka Cupic ended the scoring in the first with a power play score (0:08) to cut the lead to 3-2.

UCLA scored the first three goals of the second quarter as freshman Nicolas Saveljic scored on a counter (6:21), Farmer scored again from two meters (4:09) and Roelse scored his second on a counter attack (2:08) to put UCLA up 6-2. After Jackson Kennedy scored from the front court for SJSU (1:38), Henriksson scored on a counter attack (0:45) to give UCLA a 7-3 lead at the break.

Junior David Stiling scored on a counter (6:27) and freshman Evan Rosenfeld added a power play goal (5:21) to open the scoring in the third quarter with UCLA leading 9-3. Jacob Mercep scored on a 6-on-5 opportunity for the Spartans (5:02) to cut the lead to 9-4, but Farmer completed his hat trick with another goal at set (4:03) to give the Bruins a 10-4 cushion. Another power play goal for SJSU, this time by Cade Baldridge (3:19) cut it to 10-5, but back-to-back counter goals by Bruin freshmen Chasen Travisano (1:39) and Felix Brozyna-Vilim (0:17) ended the scoring in the third with UCLA leading 12-5.

Senior James Robinson opened the scoring in the fourth with a power play goal (4:38) to extend the lead to 13-5. Cupic scored his second goal of the game for SJSU with a strike from the front court (1:51) that made it 13-6. Henriksson scored from the front court (1:26) for the Bruins to provide the 14-6 final.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11 when they host USC on "Senior Day" on the Pac-12 Networks at 1:00 p.m. PT.
