McCullough, Hernandez Earn Academic Honors

November 09, 2017 | Women's Soccer

UCLA women's soccer players Kaiya McCullough and Julia Hernandez have earned second-team Academic All-District honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

McCullough, a sophomore defender from Mission Viejo, Calif., has maintained a 3.86 GPA. A second-team All-Pac-12 honoree, McCullough is one of just two Bruins who have started in every game for UCLA this season. A center back who has contributed to seven UCLA shutouts this year, McCullough scored her first career goal in the overtime win over USC last week and has totaled two assists.

Hernandez, a junior forward from Madrid, Spain, has compiled a 3.85 GPA in Applied Mathematics. Hernandez, who transferred to UCLA from Eastern Florida State College in Spring 2016, has scored five goals for the Bruins this season. A year ago, she was selected to UCLA's All-Academic Team.

The Bruin duo's academic honors add on to the team honors the Bruins have received this year, including a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award and the UCLA Athletics Most Improved Team GPA Award (large teams).
