NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced that both the UCLA men and women's cross country teams garnered Division I All-Academic accolades, the organization announced Thursday.

Both teams posted a grade point average over 3.0. 2016 marked the second time under the direction of coach Forest Braden that both teams earned a bid in the same season. The first under his tutelage was in 2014 and that marked the first trip for both teams since 1985.

The men posted their best finish at the NCAA regional championship since 2012. The women posted their second-best finish since 2006 as the Bruins placed sixth overall.

At the Pac-12 Championships, the third place showing for the UCLA men was its best since 1996 and its best score since 1982. UCLA tallied 58 points, just off of second place Stanford at 47 and the winner Colorado with 41.

Senior Ferdinand Edman paced UCLA all season long. The 14th place finish by Edman at the NCAA Championships was the best individual finish by a UCLA men's runner since Meb Keflezighi won the title in 1997, en route to earning All-America honors.
