LOS ANGELES โ The No. 13 UCLA men's tennis team swept visiting No. 9 Baylor Saturday, 4-0, as the Bruins did not drop a single set on any of the winning courts. No. 11 Gage Brymer picked up the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 15 Juan Benitez on the top court.
In doubles action, UCLA's No. 26 pair of Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu handed Benitez and Will Little the first loss of the day, a 6-4 decision on Court 1. Then, the UCLA (9-4) team of Maxime Cressy and Ben Goldberg recorded its first win of dual-match play after its Pacific Coast Doubles run, as it clinched the point with a victory over Johannes Schretter and Jimmy Bendeck of Baylor (13-2) on Court 3, 6-3.
Logan Staggs kept things rolling for the Bruins in singles play, as he defeated Little on Court 4, 6-1, 6-4. In a ranked-matchup, No. 42 Redlicki topped No. 35 Max Tchoutakian, 6-4, 6-2, to give the remaining Bruins a winner-take-all opportunity. Brymer snatched it up in his top-15 showdown, as the senior bested Benitez on Court 1, 6-4, 6-2.
Next up for the Bruins are the No. 43 Duke Blue Devils, who they will host in a non-conference match on Thursday, March 16. Play at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts will begin at 2:30 p.m.
