UCLA Rowing Completes Weekend in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – The UCLA women's rowing program concluded its second day of racing at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay on Sunday morning.
 
UCLA's second varsity four posted a first-place finish in its Grand Final race, while the novice eight crew raced to a third-place finish. The Bruins' two varsity eight crews raced to sixth-place finishes and the varsity four finished fourth in its Grand Final race.
 
In all, each of UCLA's five crews raced in Grand Final heats on Sunday morning.
 
The second varsity four posted a first-place time of 7:42.523, more than four seconds ahead of second-place competitor Tennessee (7:46.721). Behind UCLA and Tennessee were, in order, Sacramento State, San Diego State, SMU and UC Santa Barbara.
 
The Bruins' varsity eight posted a Grand Final race time of 6:37.053. Texas finished first in the race, posting a time of 6:16.729. Following Texas included USC (6:20.545), Wisconsin (6:27.029), Washington State (6:29.029) and British Columbia (6:33.381).
 
UCLA's second varsity eight finished sixth in its heat, posting a time of 6:53.451. Texas raced to a first-place finish with a time of 6:35.151. Following the Longhorns, in order, were Wisconsin (6:38.195), Washington State (6:43.491), Tennessee (6:47.043) and USC (6:51.265).
 
The varsity four finished fourth in its Grand Final race with a time of 7:32.305. USC won the race with a time of 7:15.025, crossing the finish line ahead of Texas and Wisconsin. Following fourth-place UCLA was Washington State and San Diego, respectively.
 
The Bruins' novice eight raced to a third-place finish in its seven-boat Grand Final race. UCLA recorded a time of 7:14.075, crossing the finish line behind first-place Texas (6:50.805) and British Columbia (7:10.889). The Bruins finished the Grand Final race ahead of San Diego State, Sacramento State, UC Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount.
 
UCLA will return to action at the Oregon State Classic on Saturday, April 8.
