UCLA Falls to Washington, 6-3

LOS ANGELES โ€“ Michael Toglia hit a solo home run, while Moises Ceja threw 5.0 innings as the UCLA baseball team fell to Washington, 6-3, on Saturday from Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Washington jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as the second batter of the game, Jack Meggs, hit a solo home run to right-center field. The Huskies made it a 5-0 advantage as they scored three runs in the seventh inning. MJ Hubbs hit a two-run single through the right side of the infield followed by Joey Morgan hitting a RBI-double down the first-base line.

The Bruins got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning as Toglia hit a solo home run off the scoreboard in right-center field to cut the Washington lead to 5-1.

After UW added a run in the eighth inning, UCLA answered with two runs to cut the lead to 6-3. Kyle Cuellar ripped a RBI-single up the middle to bring in Brett Stephens followed by Nick Kern plating Sean Bouchard with a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the final run of the game.

UCLA starter Ceja (1-2) suffered the loss allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work. Washington's Jordan Jones (4-4) earned the win tossing 4.2 innings out of the bullpen allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts. UW starter Chris Micheles threw two scoreless innings to begin the game for a no-decision.

The Bruins finished the game with three runs on nine hits and no errors, while the Huskies ended the day with six runs on 11 hits with no errors.

UCLA will play the series finale with Washington on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. (PT) from Jackie Robinson Stadium.
