Bruins Get One Round In Before Play Suspended

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Bruins fell about four holes short of completing 36 holes of golf on Saturday at The Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo Golf Club, with play getting suspended due to darkness. UCLA was tied for sixth after 18 holes of play and currently stands in solo seventh. Play will resume on Sunday at 8 a.m., which will be followed by the final round at 9:30 a.m.
The Bruins shot an 11-over 361 as a team in round one. Junior Corey Shaun and freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara each shot 1-over 71s to put them in a tie for 18th after the first round. Yoshihara's lone birdie came on the eighth hole, as he also made two bogeys. Shaun, starting on hole #11, birdied the 12th and 13th, along with #7 and #9, while making five bogeys.
Sophomore Phil Delisi was tied for 26th after an opening-round 72 (+2). He made three birdies, all on the front nine, on #3, #6 and #7, adding five bogeys. Sophomore Patrick Murphy had a 3-over 73 (T-40). He made three birdies on #13, #6 and #7 to go with four bogeys and a double. Sophomore Cole Madey was tied for 49th after his first round following a 4-over 74. He posted four birdies on #13, #4, #6 and #8, four bogeys and a quad. Junior Tyler Collier had a 6-over 76 (T-67), making four bogeys and a double.
