MVB Nets a Pair of AVCA All-Americans

Junior outside hitter Jake Arnitz and senior middle blocker Mitch Stahl were selected to the 27th annualย American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I-II Men's All-America teams announced on Monday. ย Arnitz repeated as a second-team performer, while Stahl was named to the honorable mention team. The awards will be presented at the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Banquet on the campus of The Ohio State University, site of the Men's Volleyball Championship, on Wednesday, May 3.
Arnitz, a 2017 first-team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) selection,ย led the Bruins with a 3.51 kills per set mark this season. He finished the season ranked sixth on the all-time school list for total attacks with 1,757 and ninth on the all-time lists for kills (818) and total points scored (958.5). Arnitz was named the MPSF/Molten Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in wins at USC and Cal Baptist when he hit .450 for the pair of matches with a total of 33 kills, including a career-high tying 21 kills versus the Lancers. Last season, heย also earned second-team AVCA All-America honors while helping lead the Bruins to the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Stahl, also a 2017 first-team All-MPSFย pick, led the Bruins in blocking (83 total blocks) and aces (42) this season. He ranked seventh in the nation in ace average per set and his total of 42 service aces was the ninth-best single-season total in school rally scoring era history. Stahl established a new school mark with his 0.55 aces per set average to move past Mark Williams' old school record of 0.51 set in 2001. He completed his career second on the all-time aces list at the school (129) and was third all-time in both block assists (322) and total blocks (345). He was a second-team AVCA All-America in 2016.
