Shibahara, Hart, Fleming Earn Pac-12 Honors

SAN FRANCISCO -- UCLA women's tennis freshmen Ena Shibahara became the first player in conference history to earn Singles Player of the Year and Newcomer/Freshman of the Year honors in the same season, it was announced by the conference office Friday. Junior Terri Fleming and redshirt freshman Jada Hart were also honored, as the pair was named the conference's Doubles Team of the Year. Additionally, Shibahara was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team, Hart secured second-team honors and Fleming garnered an Honorable Mention selection.
Shibahara, who has been ranked in the top five of the Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings since the beginning of dual-match play in January, currently sits at 37-5 on the season and 17-2 in dual-match play. She is riding an 11-match winning streak that dates back to February and includes victories over eight ranked opponents on the top court. She is 20-4 on the year against fellow ranked foes. The first-year player also holds a 23-5 record in doubles play (16-2 on the dual-match season), splitting time between Courts 1 and 3.
The team of Fleming and Hart, which first debuted during tournament play last year, was formed again on March 4 at Baylor. The tandem went on to win seven matches in a rowโsix of which it clinchedโas the Bruins won 10 consecutive doubles points as a team. For the year, Fleming-Hart is 13-2 overall (9-2 in dual-match play), with a 5-0 record against nationally-ranked opponents.
The All-Pac-12 honors are also firsts for all three players. Hart possesses an 18-10 overall record in singles play, including an 11-7 dual-match mark. She is 27-6 overall in doubles action. Fleming, meanwhile, has recorded four singles wins against nationally-ranked opponents and is 17-14 overall. She is 19-8 in doubles play.
