No. 5 Women's Tennis Beats No. 8 USC 6-1
February 27, 2026 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES โ The fifth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory against No. 8 USC in the teams' non-conference finale at Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA clinched the win at 4-0 before the match was played out.
The Bruins (6-2), who extended their winning streak to four matches, secured the doubles point and never looked back. Olivia Center and Mayu Crossley each won twice. Bianca Fernandez and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer beat ranked singles players. The Trojans (7-4) were put on the scoreboard by Eugenia Zozaya.
Crossley and fellow freshmen Kayla Chung teamed to defeat Emma Charney/Immi Haddad 6-2 on the third doubles court. UCLA held leads in the other two contests, but it would be the 62nd-ranked pair of Center and Kate Fakih turning in the clincher. The sophomores bested Lily Fairclough/Jana Hossam on Court 1. Center/Fakih has locked up two doubles points this season and 10 overall.
Four Bruins collected singles first sets and three of those matches would end in straight sets. Leading off was No. 49 Crossley, who took down Haddad with a 6-2, 6-4 display that pushed the Tokyo native's team-high winning streak to five matches. Fernandez then posted her second ranked victory in as many tries, topping No. 39 Charney 6-4, 6-3 on Court 4.
Lutkemeyer logged her best ranked win of the year in clinching fashion, taking down No. 32 Hossam by a 6-3, 7-6(4) score on the top court. Lutkemeyer is now 4-0 opposite ranked players on the year and has 20 career ranked singles victories.
With the result decided, No. 89 Zozaya beat No. 122 Fakih 6-4, 7-5 on Court 3. That would be it for the USC's scoring, though, as Ahmani Guichard and Center finished off their three-set triumphs for UCLA. Guichard outlasted Krisha Mahendran 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 on Court 5, while Center overcame Dani Borruel 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(7) on Court 6.
The Bruins next hit the road to open Big Ten Conference play. They open up Friday, March 6 (3 p.m. PT) at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis., where they face Wisconsin. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT. The Bruins wrap up the trip two days later at Minnesota.
