May 13, 2017 | Track & Field

EUGENE, Ore. – Day one of the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships were wet and cold, but that did not put a damper on the UCLA performances on Saturday at Historic Hayward Field.

In a downpour for many of the attempts in the high jump, freshman Isaiah Holmes took home the first title for the Bruins and collected 18 points on the day. Holmes won the high jump with a leap of 6-11.50 and was the runner-up in the long jump with a lifetime best of 25-11. The long jump mark is ninth all-time at UCLA.

The Bruin men enter Sunday in second place with 56 points while the women are also in second with a score of 37.

On top of the Holmes win and his runner-up finish, sophomore Michael Burke placed second in the high jump at 6-11.50. Senior Sage Stone was fourth in the high jump also at 6-11.50. Also scoring key points for UCLA was senior Austin O'Neil as he crossed the line second in the 3,000m steeple with a time of 8:46.78.
