Offensive Surge Leads UCLA over Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. – Sean Bouchard drove in five runs including hitting a three-run home run, while Jon Olsen struck out nine batters in 7.0 innings of work as the UCLA baseball team won the series finale at Washington State, 12-2, on Sunday from Bailey-Brayton Field.

UCLA jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the top of the second inning as Daniel Rosica drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle and later scored on a Jeremy Ydens base hit to right-center field.

After Washington State picked up a run in the bottom of the third, the Bruins responded with another three-run frame in the top of the fourth inning. Ydens picked up his second RBI of the game with a single up the middle and Bouchard would clear the bases with a two-RBI double for a 6-1 advantage.

UCLA extended its lead to 11-1 after a two-run home run by Jake Pries in the fifth inning and a three-run shot by Bouchard in the sixth inning.

Olsen (5-1) earns his fourth win during conference play after allowing two runs on four hits in 7.0 innings of work with nine strikeouts. WSU's starter Isaac Mullins (2-3) suffered the loss allowing three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings of work.

UCLA (25-23, 14-10) finished with 12 runs on 15 hits and no errors, while Washington State (24-23, 10-14) ended the game with two runs on five hits and no errors.

UCLA returns home after a seven-game road swing this weekend for its final three home games of the season at Jackie Robinson Stadium when it hosts Utah starting on Friday at 6 p.m. (PT). Sunday will be Senior Day for the Bruins as Scott Burke, Moises Ceja, Nick Kern and Brett Stephens will be honored prior to the game.
