UCLA Drops Pitcher’s Duel at Oregon, 2-1

EUGENE, Ore. – Jake Bird threw 6.1 innings allowing two runs as the UCLA baseball team dropped game two of a three-game Pac-12 series at Oregon, 2-1, on Friday from PK Park.
After four scoreless innings to start the game, Oregon scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Morgan McCullough hit a RBI-single to center field.
The Ducks pushed their lead to 2-0 in the seventh inning when Spencer Steer hit an infield single to the shortstop that allowed Kyle Kasser to score from second base after a UCLA throwing error to the plate.
UCLA cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the eighth inning as Curtis Godin pinch ran for Jack Stronach and after stealing second base, scored on a throwing error by the catcher while stealing third base.
Bird (5-4) suffered the loss allowing two runs in 6.1 innings of work on six hits with four strikeouts. Oregon's Matt Mercer (6-7) earned the win tossing 7.1 innings allowing just one unearned run and scattering three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
UCLA (29-25, 18-11) finished with one run on three hits with two errors, while Oregon (30-24, 12-17) ended the game with two runs on seven hits with one error.
The series and regular season finale for both UCLA and Oregon will be played on Saturday at 2 p.m. (PT) from PK Park. The game will be streamed live on Pac-12 Plus and on Twitter.
Game Notes: Jake Bird threw 6.0 or more innings for the fourth time this season … Curtis Godin set a career-high with two stolen bases in one game and now has four in his career … Ryan Kreidler recorded his fourth stolen base of the season … Nick Scheidler now leads the team with 34 appearances on the mound.
