Three More Advance to Eugene for UCLA

AUSTIN, Texas โ The UCLA track and field team will be sending even more to Eugene for the national meet as three more Bruins qualified on Friday evening from Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
Sophomore Julia Rizk was the first Bruin on day two to qualify for the national meet. Rizk used a personal best 2:05.02 to automatically qualify by placing third in her heat. The time ranks sixth on the UCLA top-10 list.
Sophomore Rai Benjamin quickly followed suit and busted out a personal best 48.91 to advance to Eugene in the 400m hurdles. Benjamin is only the fifth Bruin to ever dip under 49 seconds in the event and ranks fifth all-time at UCLA.
Senior Austin O'Neil capped off the second night by qualifying in the steeple. O'Neil clocked an 8:52.50 to finish as the 10th overall qualifier.ย
More Bruins elongated their stay in Austin as junior Misana Viltz posted a 13.88 (+2.9w) to advance to the quarterfinals in the 110m hurdles. Sophomore Pattriana Perry will also move on as she clocked a wind-aided 13.55 in the 100m hurdles.
Junior Leon Powell will make his second quarterfinal of the meet as he posted a personal best 20.75 to advance. Powell finished 20th in the 100m with a time of 10.31 (+2.1w).ย
Just missing out on the national meet was freshman Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis in the high jump. The newcomer finished tied for 13th by clearing a height of 5-8.50. Junior Kendall Gustafson finished at 5-6.50.ย
Freshman Logen Casavant posted a personal best 46.51 to place 19th overall in the 400m. The shot put duo of freshman Nate Esparza and sophomore Dotun Ogundeji placed 18th and 19th, respectively.ย
The final day of competition for the Bruins will begin at 1 p.m. CT with the men's discus. The running events will start at 6 p.m. CT with the women's 4x100m relay.ย
