Sean Bouchard Selected in Ninth Round to Colorado

NEW YORK - UCLA junior first baseman Sean Bouchard was selected by the Colorado Rockies as the 266th overall selection in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.
Bouchard, a native of San Diego, Calif., was named an All-Pac-12 team selection after hitting .306 and led the team in both RBIs with 43 and runs scored with 39. He was the only player to play and start in all 57 games for the Bruins this season. Bouchard slugged .523 with a team-best nine home runs and 16 doubles, while also recording a .396 on-base percentage. He ranked inside the top-10 in the Pac-12 conference in home runs, slugging percentage, doubles, RBIs, total bases, sacrifice flies and hit by pitches. Bouchard led the team with nine multi-RBI games in 2017 and also totaled 15 multi-hit games. The first baseman became the first Bruin since 2015 to hit two home runs in the same game against Gonzaga on Feb. 25 and twice tied a career-high with five RBIs during conference play.
Bouchard is the second UCLA player taken in this year's MLB draft joining right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning who was selected 47th overall to the Los Angeles Angels in the second round on Monday.
In 13 seasons as UCLA's head coach, John Savage has produced 84 MLB draft selections, including 32 players being drafted within the first 10 rounds. Bouchard marks the program's 266th all-time MLB Draft selection.
In addition, UCLA commit Jeremiah Estrada was taken 195th overall to the Chicago Cubs in the sixth round becoming the third UCLA commit to be selected over the first two days of the draft.
