No. 1 UCLA Completes Sweep with 14-6 Win Over Iowa
March 29, 2026 | Baseball
ย
The Bruins (25-2, 12-0 Big Ten) have now swept four straight weekends to open conference play, racing out to a perfect 12-0 start. UCLA has won 19 consecutive games, its longest streak since opening the 2010 season 22-0.
ย
Roman Martin powered the offense with a pair of home runs as part of a 3-for-5 day, driving in a career-high six RBIs in the contest.
ย
Four Bruins turned in two-hit performances including Dean West, Mulivai Levu, and Will Gasparino. West and Gasparino each homered in the contest.
ย
Roch Cholowsky reached base five times, collecting a double, two walks, and two hit-by-pitches while scoring a team-high three runs. Trey Gudoy added a hit and a walk in a solid 1-for-3 showing.
ย
On the mound, Wylan Moss (3-0) delivered another standout relief outing to earn his third win of the season. The right-hander fired 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out five while allowing just three hits and a walk.
ย
Iowa grabbed the early lead in the first, pushing a run across when a wild pitch allowed a runner to score.
ย
UCLA answered with two runs in the third to jump in front. West opened the inning with a solo shot that just cleared the right-field wall. Cholowsky followed by ripping a double into the left-center gap, then Martin delivered a clutch base hit to bring him home and give the Bruins the lead.
ย
The Bruins broke the game open in the fourth, hanging six runs on three hits to push the lead to seven. Gasparino, Dugger, and Gudoy worked three straight walks to load the bases, and West cashed in by smoking a two-run single up the middle. Cholowsky kept the pressure on by taking a hit-by-pitch, and Levu followed by hammering a two-run to right. Brennan capped the six-run surge by bouncing a ball up the middle to drive in two more.
ย
UCLA put the game completely out of reach in the sixth, using a pair of home runs to fuel a four-run inning. Cholowsky worked a walk and Levu followed with a base hit up the middle, setting the stage for Martin, who launched a three-run blast over the left-center wall. Gasparino added the exclamation point moments later, unloading a 442-foot moonshot to left for a solo homer. This marked Gasparino's 12th home run of the campaign.
ย
The Hawkeyes would score five runs over the next two innings when Miles Risley hit a three-run home run in the seventh, then Gable Mitchell added two-run shot in the eighth to cut the lead to six.
ย
UCLA replied with a two-run shot of its own in the ninth when Martin mashed his second homer of the day, a no-doubt big fly to left to provide the knockout blow.
ย
Easton Hawk got three last three outs with a perfect ninth to secure the sweep for UCLA.
ย
The Bruins will prepare for a midweek contest at UC Irvine on Tuesday, March 31 at 6 p.m. PT. Live coverage will be available on ESPN+.
