SAN FRANCISCO --ย Terri Fleming and Kristin Wiley of the UCLA women's tennis team were named 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention selections, it was announced by the conference Wednesday. The honors marked two in a row for each of the juniors.
The all-academic honor marked the latest Pac-12 award for Fleming, who previously earned an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection, as well as the Doubles Team of the Year award with Jada Hart. The Atlanta, Ga. native went 18-15 in singles play and 19-9 in doubles action. Fleming-Hart went 13-3 on the season and from March 4 through April 8, won seven consecutive decisions on Court 1.
Wiley (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also enjoyed doubles success, as she teamed with three different partners to go 19-5 on the season. Along with Ena Shibahara, Wiley won 11 of 12 matches to close the season. In singles play, Wiley dispatched Stephane Lin of No. 12 California to complete the Bruins' rally from a 3-1 deficit and the first of seven straight UCLA wins.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and compete in at least 50% of the team's matches.
