Wilson Wins Gold in Shot Put at Pan Am Juniors

Incoming freshman Alyssa Wilson won gold in the shot put at the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships in Lima, Peru. Wilson broke her own national high school record by nearly a foot, throwing 58-1 (17.70).
Wilson's winning throw came on her third attempt. Mexico's Maria Orozco came in second place with a 54-4.5, and the USA's Samantha Noening was third with a 51-4.5.

Wilson will go for another medal on Sunday in the hammer throw. Also competing on Sunday is Isaiah Holmes in the high jump. Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis competes for Canada in the high jump on Saturday. For the complete schedule of the championships, click here.
