September 01, 2017 | Women's Soccer
In front of a stadium record 5,375 fans in Provo, Utah, No. 1 UCLA recorded its first shutout of the season, downing BYU, 1-0, on a first-half goal by junior forward Hailie Mace.
The Bruins, who own the No. 4 scoring offense in the nation, were held to one goal, but they made it count by posting the clean sheet. Goalkeeper Teagan Micah recorded a season-high six saves.
Mace, this week's Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, continued her hot streak, scoring her team-leading fifth goal and her fourth goal in the last three games. Her long-distance left-footed strike to the upper left corner off a brilliant pass from Jessie Fleming gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 15:58.

The Bruin defense, led by center backs Kaiya McCullough and Karina Rodriguez, held off an aggressive Cougar squad the rest of the half, with Micah making four saves on BYU's six first-half shots. UCLA limited BYU to just three shots in the second half, but Micah made a spectacular diving save on a Bizzy Bowen shot in the 55th minute, and Nadia Gomes scraped the crossbar on a breakaway 1v1 opportunity in the 79th minute.
