LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA cross country team is staying local for the sixth annual The Master's University Invite on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The meet will be held in Santa Clarita's Central Park (27200 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, 91350), the only southern California venue at which the Bruins will race this season. The men's 8k race will kick off the competition at 7:45am and the women's 5k will follow at 8:30am.
The UCLA men enter the weekend 23rd in the most recent USTFCCCA national rankings while the women's squad is 10th in the West Region.
The Bruins have had great prior success at the TMU Invite. Sophomore Garrett Reynolds holds the 8k course record, as he won last year's 8k race running unattached in a time of 24:47.3. He broke the previous record set by UCLA alumnus Sergey Sushchikh at the 2013 TMU Invite. In the same meet, the 5k course record was also taken down by a Bruin, as alumna Kelsey Smith posted a time of 17:01.56 for the record.
UCLA is coming off impressive performances at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational, as the men's squad finished third while the women took ninth. Reynolds and junior Robert Brandt went 2-3 to lead the UCLA men and Erika Adler continued her strong freshman campaign with a 23rd-place finish to lead the Bruin women.
