Senior Christian Hessenauer of the UCLA men's volleyball team has been named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-21.
Hessenauer helped lead UCLA to wins over No. 9 Penn State in four sets and two-time defending national champion Ohio State in five sets by excelling on both attack and defense. He dug a total of 16 balls and recorded 10 blocks assists in the two matches. His total of six block assists in the PSU win tied his career-best performance. In an epic battle with OSU, Hessenauer was one off of his career-high totals with his team-high 13 digs. The senior also was one shy of his personal best for kills, with a team-high total of 19 vs. the Buckeyes, and added four block assists, one of which came on match point.
This is Hessenauer's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week of the season and the first of his career.
