SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – UCLA forward Michaela Onyenwere (Aurora, Colo.) was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Onyenwere averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 55.6 percent (15-for-27) from the field. She also averaged 1.3 steals per game and shot 75.0 percent (3-for-4) from the free-throw line.
Helped lead then-No. 8/7 UCLA to a 3-0 record this week, including a win at crosstown-rival USC (84-70) on Monday, and home wins over Arizona (69-46) and then-No. 25 Arizona State (71-63).
She led the Bruins in the win over Arizona with her third double-double of the year with a team-high 17 points and a personal-best 12 rebounds. She ended the week with 12 points and five boards in the win over the Sun Devils. Played only 11 minutes at USC, recording four points and four rebounds.
This is the eighth freshman honor for UCLA all-time and the second of the 2017-18 season for UCLA and for Onyenwere.
