LOS ANGELES -- In its final match before heading to Madison, Wis. for the ITA Team Indoor Championships, the No. 13 UCLA women's tennis team defeated Saint Mary's, 4-0, Friday at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Ayan Broomfield and Jada Hart each picked up wins in singles and doubles action, with Broomfield providing the clinching victory on Court 3.
Andrews and Broomfield had little trouble with Clementine Clement and Emma Critser on Court 2, dispatching the Gaels by a 6-1 score. Courts 2 and 3 came down to the wire, though. With Gaels Kareena Manji and Danielle McIntyre leading Abi Altick and Alaina Miller, 5-4, the tandem of Fleming and Hart knew it needed to step up on Court 1. The reigning Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year did just that, topping Hind Abdelouahid and Mariia Kozyreva, 6-4, to clinch the point.
Miller breezed through her singles match, 6-1, 6-1 over Vanessa Nommensen, to ensure a UCLA lead throughout the afternoon. Hart followed suit, defeating Kozyreva on Court 1, 6-2, 6-3. Then, for the second time on the young season, Broomfield provided the clinching point in a 4-0 victory, erasing Manji and the Gaels on Court 3, 6-1, 6-4.
Altick (Court 4) and Andrews (Court 6) had each won the opening set of her singles match, while Fleming (Court 2) was in the third at the time of Broomfield's win.
UCLA now turns its attention to ITA Indoors, which will run Friday, Feb. 9-Monday, Feb. 12. The Bruins will return home Friday, Feb. 16, when Loyola Marymount comes to LATC.
