Five Bruins Qualify for NCAA Indoor Championships

Four shot putters and a triple jumper will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships Mar. 9-10.

Five Bruins will compete at the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 9 and 10 in College Station, Texas. Qualifying among the Top 16 in the nation are Ashlie Blake and Alyssa Wilson in the women's shot put, Nate Esparza and Dotun Ogundeji in the men's shot put and Jessie Maduka in the women's triple jump.

Blake and Wilson are ranked No. 9 and 10 in the shot put with season-best marks of 17.36m (56-11.5) and 17.30m (56-9.25), respectively. Esparza ranks No. 12 in the shot put with a mark of 19.49m (63-11.5) and is followed close behind by Ogundeji at No. 13 with a mark of 19.37m (63-6.75). Maduka, the MPSF triple jump champion, ranks No. 4 nationally with a UCLA school record mark of 13.74m (45-1).

This is Ogundeji's third NCAA Indoor appearance. He finished 12th as a freshman in 2016 and 15th in 2017, earning second-team All-America honors each year. Blake, Wilson, Esparza and Maduka will make their NCAA Indoor debuts.

ESPN3 will stream the meet live on Mar. 9 at 3:30 pm PT and on Mar. 10 at 2 pm PT. ESPN2 will re-air the championship on Sunday, Mar. 11 at 4 pm PT.
