LOS ANGELES – For the third consecutive year, the UCLA women's basketball team (24-7) will be hosting the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on ESPN today.

The Bruins earned a No. 3 seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament in the Kansas City Regional (UCLA was also a three-seed in 2016 and was a four-seed last year in 2017). The Bruins will host three other teams at Pauley Pavilion and will face 14th-seeded American (26-6) in the first game on Saturday, March 17 at 12:30 p.m. (PT) on ESPN2.

Should the Bruins advance to the Second Round, they will face the winner of sixth-seeded Iowa (24-7) and 11th-seeded Creighton (18-12), which will battle in the second game on Saturday afternoon (approximately 3:00 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the UCLA/American contest), also on ESPN2.

No. 9 UCLA will be making its 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its third in a row after reaching the Sweet Sixteen in each of the last two years, the first back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances in school history. Previous appearances include 1983, 1985, 1990, 1992, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2017. This is the fourth trip to the dance under The Michael Price Family UCLA Head Women's Basketball Coach, Cori Close. UCLA sports an all-time NCAA Tournament record of 15-14.

UCLA has won 38 consecutive games at home against unranked teams and 25 straight over unranked non-conference teams. The last unranked team to beat the Bruins at home was California, 72-57, on Jan. 25, 2015. the Bruins have gone 44-3 (.936) at home the last three years with the only losses coming to No. 1 UConn (78-60, Nov. 21, 2017), No. 2 South Carolina (68-65 on Nov. 22, 2015) and No. 10 Oregon (70-61, Jan. 7, 2018).
  
The NCAA Tournament features a 64-team field with the first two rounds hosted on campus sites in brackets of four teams. This year's Final Four is at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, March 29 through April 1.

This is the first-ever meeting between UCLA and American, the winners of the Patriot League. The Bruins are also 1-1 all-time against Iowa, picking up a win last season against the Hawkeyes, 78-65, in Cancun, Mexico (Nov. 24, 2016). UCLA is 1-0 against Creighton, picking up the only win in the series earlier this season in Las Vegas, Nev., 72-63, on Nov. 25, 2017.
