BOSTON – UCLA guard Aaron Holiday has been selected as one of 35 players in the nation to the 2017-18 Lute Olson All-America Team, as announced on Wednesday.
The Lute Olson Award is annually presented to the nation's top Division I college basketball player. This year's award will be announced in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday, April 2 (at the site of the NCAA Men's Final Four).
Holiday led the Pac-12 Conference in scoring in 2017-18, averaging 20.3 points per game. He also ranked second among Pac-12 players in assists per game (5.8). In fact, Holiday became the first UCLA player since Reggie Miller in 1985-86 to lead the league in scoring (Miller averaged 25.9 points per game that season).
Holiday was named a first-team All-Pac-12 selection and earned third-team All-America honors from Sporting News. He was also selected as one of five players in the Pac-12 to the league's All-Defensive Team.
Through three seasons at UCLA (2016-18), Holiday averaged 14.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 101 games (65 starts). He ranks No. 25 on the school's all-time scoring list (1,443 points). In addition, Holiday ranks No. 7 on UCLA's career assists-per-game list (4.72), No. 8 in career three-pointers made (180) and No. 9 in career assists (477).
As a junior in 2017-18, Holiday scored in double figures in 32 of the team's 33 games and led UCLA in both assists (192) and steals (42). He secured first-team NABC Division I All-District honors and was named an All-District IX selection by the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association (USBWA).
A former star at Campbell Hall High School, Holiday became UCLA's first player to average at least 20 points per game in a full season since Ed O'Bannon tallied 20.4 points per game in 1994-95.
Through three seasons, Holiday never missed one game for UCLA. He helped the Bruins post a 67-34 record, playing in all 101 games.
The award's namesake, Lute Olson, won 780 games as a head coach over the course of 34 seasons, including 24 of which he spent at the University of Arizona.
