Junior guard Aaron Holiday of the UCLA men's basketball team has captured third-team All-America honors from Sporting News, the national publication announced Monday afternoon (full lists available here).
 
Holiday has led UCLA to a 20-10 overall record and enters the upcoming Pac-12 Tournament as the Pac-12's leading scorer (averaging 20.1 points per game). Holiday also ranks second among all Pac-12 players in assists per game (5.8) and is first in minutes played per game (37.3).
 
A former standout guard at Campbell High School, Holiday is one of just three players in college basketball from a "Power 6" conference to rank among the top two leaders in both points and assists in his league. Oklahoma guard Trae Young and Kansas guard Devonte' Graham, both of the Big 12 Conference, have also accomplished that feat (based off stats through Sunday, March 4).
 
Holiday ranks third in the Pac-12 in three-point field goal percentage (43.9%), third in most three-pointers made (76), second in free throws made (150) and fifth in free throw attempts (182).
 
Since the Pac-12 began to consistently record assists in 1983-84, only five players have registered at least 20 points and five assists per game. Holiday (20.1 ppg, 5.8 apg) is on pace to become the sixth player to have accomplished that feat. In addition, no UCLA player has averaged at least 20.0 points per game through a full season since Ed O'Bannon logged 20.4 points per game as a senior in 1994-95.
 
Holiday has become UCLA's first guard to average at least 19 points per game through a full season since Reggie Miller averaged 22.3 points per game as a senior in 1986-87. Bill Walton (1973-74) is the only previous UCLA player to have logged at least 19.0 points and 5.0 assists per game in a season. During his senior year, Walton finished the season having registered 19.3 points, 14.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
 
Joining Holiday as third-team All-America selections (Sporting News) this season are Keenan Evans (Texas Tech), Luke Maye (North Carolina), Carsen Edwards (Purdue) and Mikal Bridges (Villanova).
 
First-team All-America selections by the national publication include Devonte' Graham (Kansas), Trae Young (Oklahoma), Marvin Bagley (Duke), Deandre Ayton (Arizona) and Jalen Brunson (Villanova).
 
Second-team selections include Jevon Carter (West Virginia), Jock Landale (Saint Mary's), Miles Bridges (Michigan State), Keita Bates-Diop (Ohio State) and Trevon Bluiett (Xavier).
