BERKELEY, Calif. - Freshman Holly Azevedo struck out four in a complete-game, five-hit shutout on Friday, as the top-ranked Bruins blanked No. 24 California by a score of 5-0 at Levine-Fricke Field.

The Bruins, who ran their winning streak to 12, improved to 46-3 overall and 16-3 in Pac-12 play, while the Golden Bears fell to 34-14 and 7-11 in league.

Azevedo moved to 15-0 on the season, giving up only one walk with her five hits. She retired the last eight batters of the game, adding another 1-2-3 frame in the third. Offensively, the Bruins had seven hits from five different players, as redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan and freshman Briana Perez each recorded two hits.



The Bruins jumped on the Bears with two runs in the first. Senior Kylee Perez walked to open the game, Briana Perez singled up the middle and Jordan reached on an error to load the bases. One out later, sophomore Bubba Nickles singled to right to bring in a pair of Perez sisters to make it 2-0.

In the fourth, UCLA scored three times. With one out, freshman Kinsley Washington singled up the middle and reached second safely following a Cal error with Kylee Perez at the plate. Briana Perez followed with a single up the middle to plate Washington to make it 3-0. With Kylee Perez taking third on the single by her sister, she came home on a Jordan RBI single to center to extend the lead to 4-0. Briana Perez raced to third on the single by Jordan and scored on a sacrifice fly by redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia to bring the advantage to 5-0.

Cal's best chance came in the fifth when it loaded the bases with one out, but Azevedo got a pop up and a grounder to end the threat.



The Bruins look to clinch another series victory on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The game will air on Pac-12 Networks.
