STILLWATER, Okla. - In a battle of attrition on day one of the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club, the Bruins sit in third place following a 6-over 294 on Friday. None of the 24 teams were under par after 18 holes, with USC holding the lead at 3-over 291 and Alabama second (+4, 292).

Freshman Patty Tavatanakit, who has won three tournaments in a row, was one of only 10 players to shoot under par in round one, posting a 1-under 71. Starting on the 10th hole, she was bogey-free on her first nine, making birdies on No. 11, 14 and 16 to get to 3-under. After making a bogey on the second and back-to-back doubles on No. 4 and 5, Tavatanakit finished strong, making a birdie on the eighth and eagle on the par-5 ninth to close at 1-under for the day.

Junior Lilia Vu is tied for 11th, recording an even-par 72. She balanced her books with birdies on No. 13 and 2 and two bogeys. Sophomore Mariel Galdiano is tied for 35th, shooting a 3-over 75. She made a pair of birdies on the 15th and 9th, three bogeys and a double. Junior Beth Wu is tied for 51st (+4, 76) following a four-bogey opening round. Sophomore Clare Legaspi is tied for 88th (+7, 79), making back-to-back birdies on No. 7 and 8, seven bogeys and a double.

The Bruins tee off bright and early at 7:30 a.m. CT/5:30 a.m. PT off the first tee on Saturday in the order of Legaspi, Wu, Galdiano, Vu and Tavatanakit. Live scoring will be available here.
