UCLA Athletics placed second in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, recording a school-record 1,326 points to finish just 116 points behind first-place Stanford. The Bruins have posted eight runner-up finishes and 23 Top 10 finishes in the 25-year history of the Directors' Cup.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. Schools can count 19 sports in their total, four of which must be baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball and women's volleyball. UCLA's 19 scoring teams averaged 69.8 points.

UCLA's school record total was aided by NCAA Championships won by men's water polo, women's gymnastics and beach volleyball. Eleven Bruin teams finished in the Top 5 at the NCAA Championships. Women's soccer and men's volleyball finished second nationally; softball, men's tennis and women's water polo earned third-place finishes; and women's basketball, women's tennis and women's golf finished fifth. Also contributing points to the Bruins' total were men's cross country, women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's indoor track & field, women's swimming & diving, women's outdoor track & field, and men's golf. UCLA had points from football and men's outdoor track & field omitted to stay within the limit of 19 sports counted.

The 1,326 points scored by UCLA is the second-highest point total by any school other than Stanford in Directors' Cup history (Ohio State scored 1,343 in 2016-17). UCLA improved 319 points from its total from a year ago.

In addition to having 22 of 25 teams qualify for postseason play, UCLA won four Pac-12 Conference championships – women's gymnastics, women's golf, men's tennis and beach volleyball.
