UCLA women's rowing rising senior Carlisle Wheeler won a gold medal representing the United States, while rising seniors Kyra Edwards and Saskia Budgett secured bronze medals for Great Britain at the U-23 World Championships in Poland.
 
In all, the UCLA women's rowing program had five student-athletes compete at the U-23 World Championships, with four of those individuals leading their respective boats to 'A' final races.
 
Wheeler won the gold medal in the women's 4+, while Edwards and Budgett were teammates for the British women's 4x. Rising senior Megan Slabbert finished sixth with Great Britain in the 4-, and recent UCLA graduate Sophia Denison-Johnston advanced to the C final in the women's lightweight 2x with Team USA.
 
This year's U-23 World Championships took place from July 25-29 in Poznan, Poland, nearly 200 miles to the west of Warsaw (Poland's capital).
 
Last summer, Budgett, Edwards and Wheeler competed at the same U-23 event in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Budgett and Edwards were part of Great Britain's U-23 squad that won the gold medal in the women's 4x. Budgett competed in the championship race, while Edwards raced in preliminary 4x heats for Great Britain.
