LOS ANGELES - Junior Savvy Simo had 13 digs for the 17th-ranked Bruins, while senior Zana Muno added 12 in Wednesday's three-set loss at No. 14 USC. Set scores were 21-25, 8-25, 27-29.
Junior Madeleine Gates and sophomore Mac May paced the Bruins' offense with eight kills apiece, as May also had six digs and two aces. Senior Kyra Rogers had six kills and four blocks and freshman Hawley Harrer recorded five kills. The Bruins hit .142 for the match.
The Bruins (5-3, 0-1 Pac-12) trailed throughout most of the opening set. Trailing 12-8, UCLA scored six of seven to take a 14-13 advantage. Harrer and sophomore Jenny Mosser each had two kills during the run, Rogers added a kill and USC (9-3, 1-0 Pac-12) made an error. The one-point margin was the first and only lead for the Bruins in set one. Even at 16, USC scored nine of the next 14 to take the opener by a score of 25-21. Harrer had four kills in the first set, while Mosser and Rogers each added three. Freshman Devon Chang had five digs, Simo recorded four and Rogers added three blocks, as the Bruins were out-hit .171 to .089. USC also won set two, 25-8. Simo and junior Kylie Miller had four digs. The Bruins were out-hit .441 to .032.
