No. 13/12 UCLA Earns Another Road Sweep

PULLMAN, Wash.ย โย Senior point guard Jordin Canada had 19 points and senior Monique Billings and junior Lajahna Drummer each had double-doubles for UCLA to lead the 13th-ranked Bruins to a 79-71 win at Washington State at Beasley Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
Billings had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Drummer finished with 10 points and a career-high-tying 14 boards to help UCLA to a 51-29 rebounding advantage.
The Bruins got off to a decent start, leading 13-9 in the first quarter with 5:33 to go. But then Billings picked up her second foul and UCLA missed its last seven shots from the field and two free throws of the period as WSU went on an 11-0 run to lead 20-13 at the end of the period.
UCLA led 38-34 at the half, thanks to junior Kennedy Burke, who scored six straight points for the Bruins late in the period. She started an 8-0 run that was capped by a layup fromย Canada that ended the scoring in the second as the Cougars failed to score in the final 2:31 of the period.
In the third quarter, the Bruins and the Cougars played a tight affair with UCLA winning the period 21-16. Canada had six points in the quarter and Billings had five points and eight huge rebounds. Freshman Michaela Onyenwereย grabbed an offensive board and put it back in to give the Bruins their largest lead of the quarter at 59-48 with 48 seconds left in the period.
The fourth quarter was won by WSU, 21-20, but the Cougars never got closer than five points.
Burke rounded out the quartet of double figure scorers for UCLA with 16 points.
Borislava Hristova had a game-high 25 points for the Cougars. Chanelle Molina (11 points) and Pinelopi Pavlopoulouย (10 points) each scored in double figures for WSU.
UCLA returns to action on Friday, Feb. 2 when it hosts USC (15-6, 5-5) for an 8:00 p.m. PT tip-off on the Pac-12 Networks.
