LOS ANGELES – Four members of the UCLA men's soccer team were named to the Top Drawer Freshmen Top-100 player rankings on Friday morning.
The haul of four honorees was second-most in the nation behind Wake Forest (five) and twice as many as any other Pac-12 institution.
Midfielder Frankie Amaya was the top-ranked Bruin, coming in at No. 9. Goalkeeper Justin Garces was ranked No. 14, making UCLA one of just two schools nationwide with a pair of players inside the top-15. Midfielder Matt Hundley (No. 36) and defender AJ Vasquez (No. 50) rounded out the group.
Amaya has one goal and one assist in seven starts for the Bruins, but has dazzled with his footwork and pace.
Garces has started seven games in goal for the Bruins, accruing a 1.00 goals against average and .696 save percentage. His GAA ranks second in the Pac-12 while his save percentage ranks third. He has been a key part of three of UCLA's five team shutouts this year.
One of the top scoring freshmen in college soccer this year, Hundley has three goals and a conference-best five assists to this point in the season. He is 12th overall in freshman scoring and only three frosh players have more assists than him.
Vasquez has stepped in seamlessly to the Bruin back line, starting nine games at outside back and providing quality minutes on both flanks. He was on the field for all five of UCLA's clean sheets.
The Bruins, tied atop of the Pac-12 standings, have a chance to take sole possession of first place in the league on Saturday night as they travel south to take on San Diego State at 7:00 p.m.
