Former UCLA standout goalkeeper Brad Friedel will be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on Saturday night, adding another bulletpoint to a prestigious resume as a player and coach both internationally and domestically.

The Induction Ceremony for the National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2018 will be streamed on the new National Soccer Hall of Fame website beginning at 2:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 20. The ceremony will also stream live on the Hall of Fame's Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts, as well as the Facebook accounts of Major League Soccer and the New England Revolution.

Besides Friedel, the National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2018 includes former U.S. Soccer president Dr. Bob Contiguglia on the Builder ballot, Tiffeny Milbrett on the Player ballot as well as Cindy Parlow Cone on the Veteran ballot. Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber, who was elected to the 2016 class but wished to be enshrined this year to honor the Hunt family as part of the celebrations surrounding the opening of the new NSHOF location, and legendary broadcaster JP Dellacamera, winner of the 2018 Colin Jose Media Award, will also be honored during the induction ceremony.

Friedel is in his second season as head coach of the New England Revolution, a position to which he was named on Nov. 9, 2017.

Still the UCLA school record-holder for career goals-against average at 0.60, he played goalkeeper for the Bruins from 1990-92 and helped UCLA amass a record of 50-8-7. As a freshman, Friedel was named the Soccer America Freshman of the Year, first-team All-Far West and UCLA team MVP while leading the Bruins to the NCAA Championship. The following season, he was named All-Far West and All-American. In 1992, Friedel received a myriad of awards, including All-Far West and All-America honors, UCLA team MVP, ISAA Goalkeeper of the Year and the prestigious Hermann Trophy, given to the nation's top collegiate soccer player.

Friedel was elected into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 2003 and was named to Soccer America's College Team of the Century.

Internationally, Friedel enjoyed one of the most accomplished playing careers in U.S. soccer history. In his 13-year international career, Friedel earned 82 career caps for the United States, the fourth most ever among American goalkeepers. He was instrumental in leading the USA to the 2002 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals, making all five starts in the tournament, and was on the U.S. roster for all three FIFA World Cups from 1994 to 2002. His stellar play led to his selection as the 2002 Chevy Male Athlete of the Year for U.S. Soccer.

Friedel's club career featured over 600 total appearances across all competitions, highlighted by 17 Premier League seasons. His 450 league appearances in the Premier League are the most ever by an American and third most among all goalkeepers. Among other notable achievements, Friedel also holds the Premier League record for most consecutive appearances with 310, and his 132 clean sheets rank among the top 10 in league history.
