Karina Rodriguez Selected Pac-12 Defensive Player of Week
October 30, 2018 | Women's Soccer
UCLA sophomore Karina Rodriguez was selected the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Rodriguez, who was also named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week, led the Bruin defense to two important road victories last week, 5-1 at Utah and 2-1 at No. 20 Colorado. Against Utah, she scored the first goal of the game, her second of the year, and defensively helped hold the Utes to just three shots, only one on goal. The Torrance native also played outstanding defense against Colorado, helping to limit the Buffs to just two shots on goal in the contest. With Rodriguez leading the defense, UCLA has won eight straight games. She leads UCLA in minutes played with 1,510 and has played in all but 40 minutes this year.
UCLA has totaled seven Pac-12 weekly honors this season and a Pac-12 high 77 all-time. Along with Rodriguez on two occasions this year, Delanie Sheehan (Oct. 16) and Kaiya McCullough (Oct. 9) were also honored defensively. Hailie Mace was named Offensive Player of the Week Aug. 21, and Teagan Micah was the Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 16 and Aug. 28.
The Bruins will wrap up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 2 against USC at StubHub Center at 7 pm.
