LOS ANGELES – The Michael Price Family UCLA Women's Head Basketball Coach Cori Close unveiled today the program's highly-touted 2018-19 recruiting class, as the Bruins signed four players to National Letters of Intent.
The class, ranked ninth by espnW's Hoopgurlz rankings, includes Camryn Brown (Lewisville, Texas/Prestonwood Christian), Brynn Masikewich (Alberta, Canada/Lincoln Prep), Charisma Osborne (Moreno Valley, Calif./Windward HS) and Jaden Owens (Plano, Texas/Plano West Senior HS).
The talented quartet will enter UCLA in the fall of 2019 as freshmen and will become members of the 2019-20 women's basketball team.
Camryn Brown | 5-10 | Guard | Lewisville, Texas | Prestonwood Christian
Hailing from Lewisville, Texas, Brown was recognized as a four-star recruit by Prospects Nation and the 22nd-best shooting guard in the 2019 class. As a sophomore, Brown was a First-Team All-State selection and averaged 13.1 points and 3.5 assists in the regular season to help Prestonwood Christian reach the state semifinals. She was a two-time (2015-16, 2016-17) TAPPS Defensive Player of the Year and was also named to the TAPPS All-State Tournament Team both of those seasons. A standout athlete and honor roll student, Brown also competed on the track & field team, winning the 4x100m relay at the state track meet and taking second in both the 400m and 200m dash.
Cori Close on Brown:
"Camryn is everything that we've built our culture around... persevering, others centered, versatile, hardworking and an excellent student. Our Bruin family will fall in love with her."
Brynn Masikewich | 6-3 | Forward | Alberta, Canada | Lincoln Prep
Standing 6-foot-3 and hailing from Alberta, Canada, Masikewich was listed as a four-star recruit and played for the Canadian National Team at the FIBA U17 Women's World Basketball Cup, where she tallied averages of 5.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. At Lincoln Prep, Masikewich is off to a great start to her senior campaign, averaging over 20 points and 13 rebounds per contest. She is currently looking to lead Lincoln Prep to its third-consecutive OSBA Championship.
Cori Close on Masikewich:
"Her ability to shoot the three, be an elite passer, and her exceptional footwork will be a great addition as a stretch four. I'm so excited to add her versatile skill set and high IQ on the court, but I am even more excited about her passion to join the Bruin family!"
Charisma Osborne | 5-8 | Guard | Moreno Valley, Calif. | Windward HS
A five-star recruit out of Moreno Valley, Calif., Osborne comes to UCLA as the No. 10 player in the nation, as well as the third-best point guard, according to Prospects Nation. During her junior campaign at Windward High School, Osborne averaged 21 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.2 steals per game en route to being named CIF Southern Section First Team and the CIF Southern Section Player of the Year. A two-time (2016-17; 2017-18) LA Times Player of the Year honoree, Osborne led her high school team to the Southern Section Open Division championship and CIF State Open Division championship during her junior season. Over the summer, Osborne helped the USA Women's National Team win the FIBA U17 Women's World Basketball Cup in Minsk, Belarus. Rated the 22nd-best player in the country by espnW's HoopGurlz rankings, Osborne was named Ms. Basketball in the state of California as a junior and is a three-year honor-roll student.
Cori Close on Charisma:
"I love Charisma's love of her city and of her family. She wants to impact kids in this community, share the experience with her family and bring a championship to Westwood. Charisma is an elite shooter, she is an explosive slasher, and her on-ball defense is suffocating."
Jaden Owens | 5-9 | Guard | Plano, Texas | Plano West Senior HS
A McDonald's All-American nominee, Owens was listed as a five-star recruit according to espnW's HoopGurlz, ranking 14th overall and third at the guard spot. As a junior, she posted 20.4 points, 4.4 assists and 3.7 steals per outing, connecting on 207 field goals and 82 three-pointers. She is a four-year varsity starter, as well as a three-time team captain who has maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher throughout high school. In 2017-18, she was named the District 6-6A Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Prospects Nation ranked Owens as the 23rd-best player in the country, and the fifth-best point guard in the land.
Cori Close on Owens:
"She shoots it, she distributes, she is an elite leader, and she has unwavering confidence. Jaden is the point guard we needed. I love her drive and desire to do whatever it takes to be the best! She has amazing charisma (no pun intended), and she loves the big moments."
