The John Mackey Award named UCLA's Caleb Wilson on Thursday as one of eight Semi-Finalists for the 2018 John Mackey Award which annually honors the nation's top tight end.
Wilson ranks seventh in the Pac-12 in receiving yards per game (71.8) and leads the Bruin team with 47 catches this season for 718 yards and a 15.3 yard per catch average. He is coming off of one of his best games of the year at Arizona State last Saturday, where he registered a season-best 11 catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns. The 11 catches versus the Sun Devils put him over the 100-catch mark for his Bruin career. It was his second 100-yard game of the season as he made eight catches for 102 yards against Washington. Earlier this season, he went over the 1,000-yard receiving yards mark for his career in the game at Cal.
Wilson's total of 718 receiving yards in 2018 places him just 32 yards shy of joining the all-time Top 20 school list for single-season receiving yards and he is just 11 catches short of moving into the all-time school Top 20 single-season list for receptions. Last season, Wilson set a UCLA school record with 15 catches against Texas A&M for a total of 208 yards (fourth-most on the all-time school list) in UCLA's thrilling comeback win over the Aggies.
The 2018 John Mackey Finalists will be revealed on November 22 and this year's award recipient will be announced on December 5 and then presented with the award live on December 6 at the The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
